What is a metabolic disease?
Metabolic disease, any of the diseases or disorders that disrupt normal metabolism, the process of converting food to energy on a cellular level. Thousands of enzymes participating in numerous interdependent metabolic pathways carry out this process. Metabolic diseases affect the ability of the cell to perform critical biochemical reactions that involve the processing or transport of proteins (amino acids), carbohydrates (sugars and starches), or lipids (fatty acids). https://www.britannica.com/science/metabolic-disease
Glucose is what our bodies primarily use for fuel for the body and the brain. However, glucose is also what feeds cancer cells. The purpose of fasting is to reduce and eliminate glucose as the source of energy and instead utilize ketone bodies, which are produced from fat cells in the body. This can be achieved rapidly by water fasting for 3-4 days and then eating a diet very, very low in carbohydrates, also known as a ketogenic diet. A ketogenic diet can be plant based or meat based. For cancer, as meat has been shown to be carcinogenic, I highly recommend a plant based ketogenic diet. The Nutritarian diet can be adapted to fit this ketogenic state as well. There will be more discussion on fasting and the different kinds of fasting next week. Please post any questions you may have or any pertinent information in the comments section! I look forward to hearing your thoughts!
